"Fly"
Panoramic View from Thousands of Lenses
The hexagonal lenses that make up a fly's compound eye provide a much larger field of vision than regular lenses. In some flies, there can be up to 5000 lenses. Additionally, the round structure of the eye allows flies to see behind their bodies, giving them an advantage over their enemies.
Feeding Pump in Flies: Proboscis
Another distinctive feature of flies is their way of digesting food. Unlike other living organisms, flies do not digest food inside their mouths, but outside their bodies. Flies release a special fluid onto their food with their proboscis, altering the viscosity of the food to make it suitable for absorption. Then, flies absorb the food using a feeding pump in their throat.
